I am really confused
What is wrong with the Democratic vision?
I just finished watching the Democrat Convention. Yep. All four nights. And I also watched the Republican Convention—all four nights. In the case of the RNC, I didn't hear much in the way of proposed policies, but a lot about stuff that needed to be cleaned up; a screwed up, kinda’ trashy United States. The DNC also pointed out things that needed to be changed, but with how they would change it. I didn’t hear much from the Republicans about changing anything. Project 2025, their proposed solution, wasn’t mentioned (along with abortion).
During the Democratic Convention, I heard a need to help with child care, housing costs, and women’s rights. These proposals and others made a lot of sense to me. I kept asking myself, where is the downside? What will the Republicans say about these ideas? Are those Dem recommendations Socialist ideas? Far Right? COMMUNIST? What would Trump and Fox suggest as an alternative? I predict their response will be some form of the statement attributed to the historical figure Marie Antoinette, “Let them eat cake!” Helping the downtrodden is a handout. We made it on our own. Those who didn’t make it did it to themselves.
Then, on Thursday evening, in her acceptance speech, Kamala Harris said the following:
“And, so, on behalf of the people, on behalf of every American, regardless of party, race, gender or the language your grandmother speaks. On behalf of my mother, and everyone who has ever set out on their own unlikely journey. On behalf of Americans like the people I grew up with—people who work hard, chase their dreams and look out for one another. On behalf of everyone whose story could only be written in the greatest nation on Earth, I accept your nomination to be president of the United States of America.”
To my Republican friends, isn’t that the most left-wing bunch of crap you have ever heard?
Historical Note: In case you didn’t know, Marie, as mentioned earlier, lost her head…literally in 1793.
